Description:
The topic of this unit is “Connecting with our environment through Math and the Arts.” A primary goal in developing this unit and having it implemented is to help students better understand mathematical and artistic concepts in ways which increase their awareness of and connection with their environment. In broadening students' perspectives within and outside of the classroom, I believe that they will naturally become more curious about and interested in their “real worlds.” While this unit could include a myriad of lessons, the following lessons focus on the mathematical topics of shapes and patterns and leverage visual, musical, and bodily/kinesthetic forms of art. * NOTE: PDF files are included within the .ZIP and contain the unit and lesson plans.
